This in-person session is about the basic weaving techniques you will need to create your first handwoven piece.

Weaving is one of the oldest methods of creating fabric and is a celebrated cultural practice in the Philippines. This workshop introduces Modern Weaving, a contemporary take on the traditional practice that makes it easier to learn and understand the craft at your own pace, capacity, and space.

The complete set of Weave-It-Yourself kit is yours to keep for more woven projects! By the end of our session, some students will finish their woven piece while some can take it home to complete later. You will learn that weaving is a slow craft and that it is best to practice this at your own pacing as it can also be relaxing, fun, and therapeutic!

Lessons include materials discussion, warping your loom, plain + twill weaving techniques and their variations, and a little Q&A before we end on how to translate your fun ideas for your next projects. An online bonus guide will also be provided on how to take your piece off the loom and finish off as a table centerpiece, wall hanging, sewn as a pillow case, and put on a frame.

About the Instructor: Judith Basco is a fiber artist and a peasant advocate based in Pasig, Metro Manila. She started @theartofyarn on Instagram in 2018 and has taught kids and adults the art of weaving since 2019. Aside from weaving, she also practices Latch & Locker Hooking, Crochet, Macrame, and other fun fiber crafts to create her pieces. A big part of what she does is to help beginners learn the fundamentals of weaving to help bring appreciation and recognition to this cultural craft. You can check out her work here.

Cancellations: All sales are final, but can be transferred or rescheduled in case you can no longer attend the in-person class. However, we require at least a written notice 48 hours before the date to allow us to adjust accordingly.

Pay in installments: I now offer a 3-month interest-free installment plan via Atome (see how it works here) or a 50% down payment transaction with the full balance paid on our workshop day, simply choose the option for payments below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there other dates available?

I update the dates above as soon as I can. If you don't see your desired date, please send me a message on Instagram and let's see what we can do!

Can we choose a project to make?

The standard project for the beginners' workshop is a woven wall hanging. But I'd love to hear your ideas, send me a message on Instagram @theartofyarn!

How can I book a workshop for 6+ people?

My cozy shared studio, Habitat570, cannot house more than 5 participants. We can either look for a venue (I have friends I can refer, but with additional fees) or host it at your own space! Please send me a message first on my Instagram @theartofyarn before purchasing a pass :)
