[Oct 7, 2pm] Banig Embroidery Workshop at Roots Collective, BGC

Schedule: October 7 (Saturday) / 2pm-4pm (2 hours)

Location: Roots Collective store in Uptown Mall, BGC (tap to see it in Google Maps!)

Introduce yourself to the traditional practice of banig embroidery or also known as 'Pagpapahot' in the Samar banig community. In this 2-hr in-person workshop, you'll learn the basic techniques of embroidery on a woven banig mat using the common motifs and patterns practiced by the artisans.

Included in the workshop fee is the complete Banig Weaving & Embroidery kit, prepared by Woven PH's artisans, yours to take home! You'll also receive access to the tutorials so you can continue and create more.

We're also hosting a Paper Banig weaving workshop on the same day in the morning at 11am so feel free to sign up for this as well! These workshops were made possible through my collaboration with WOVEN PH, and of course to Roots Collective for letting us host at their store space!

A link to the online video guide will be provided to participants after the session so you can make more at home. 

About the Instructor: Judith Basco is a fiber artist and a peasant advocate based in Pasig, Metro Manila. She started @theartofyarn on Instagram in 2018 and has taught kids and adults the art of weaving since 2019. Aside from weaving, she also practices Latch & Locker Hooking, Crochet, Macrame, and other fun fiber crafts to create her pieces. A big part of what she does is to help beginners learn the fundamentals of weaving to help bring appreciation and recognition to this cultural craft. You can check out her work here.

Cancellations: All sales are final, but can be transferred or rescheduled in case you can no longer attend the in-person class. However, we require at least a written notice 48 hours before the date to allow us to adjust accordingly.
